98% of the fun in Triathlon is the training. The other 2% is the measure of how much fun we had.

Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my bolg about Triathlon and all of the things related to it. I have no idea why I am doing this, what it will be about, or where it will go.

First off, I am not an expert on Triathlon, Training, Swimming, Cycling or Running. I am "OK" for my age group: M50-54. However, I love to run, I love to ride and I love to train. Swimming sucks - well, swimming is OK, but I had enough of it on swim team from age 5 to 17. Going to the pool became a torture session in the isolation chamber. That being said, I really enjoy sunrise swims in Lake Michigan at Ohio Street Beach!

I have been cycling fairly seriously for the last 5 or 6 years, and I finally got back to serious running three years ago. So... I decided last year to enter the world of Triathlon. Other than the required pool sessions I am hooked. Last year I rode just over 3,000 miles, ran 2,400 miles and successfully completed two olympic triathlons and a half Ironman. I run 50 miles per week, year round, and I usually run 13 out of 14 days (mostly before 7:00am). Being originally from northern Minnesota, the weather doesn't really bother me. I train in temperatures below zero, above 90, rain, snow, ice and everthing else. As a matter of fact, some of my most memorable runs and rides have been in really nasty conditions.

I also travel a lot for business, so not only have I learned how to continue training while traveling, I also get to explore new areas. I have run in Central Park, along the Erie Canal, along the Puget Sound, on the trails at Donner Pass, and I have run on countless forgettable suburban streets. I have also gotten lost.

Again, none of this makes me an expert. But I do have thoughts and observatrions that have made training comfortable, healthy and most of all fun. If you find some information here that helps you - Great. If not... well... sorry.

Over time I will use this Blog to post training sessions - times, places, etc.

So, come along for the ride, and contribute to the Banter.
