Sudden Century Ride

The Joliet Bicycle Club's Sudden Century ride is this Sunday, May 7th. Frankfort is the last rest stop for the 70 qand 100 mile routes, so we are planning on starting the ride from Frankfort (normal parking lot) at 7:15AM. We will ride to the start of the ride in downtown Joliet. From there we will follow either the 70 mile route or the 100 mile route, depending on the weather and the wind.

Leave a comment if you plan on joining us in Frankfort, or if you are starting in Joliet.

It's always nice to have quick wind reference before heading out on a long ride.

Easter Ride - Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Good ride everybody!

27 degrees when I left my house at 7:20 AM: Brrrrrrrrrrrr. We elected to ride the 50 mile route, which put us just over 60 miles for our round trip from downtown Frankfort. There were some numb hands and feet for the first half of the ride, but it warmed up a bit for the second half and thankfully there was very little wind (although, what wind there was seemed to always be in our face?).

According to the Garmin GPS, our average riding speed was 16 MPH. Not too bad considering it was our first ride of distance for the year, and we took it "very" easy. Click on the map below, and you can view the ride in MotionBased (the Garmin Online Tracking system). From there you can download files for Google Earth and others. Just remember: Your Heart Rate numbers will be different ;-) Also, there appears to be a spike in the elevation measurement, because I don't think we actually climbed 9,574 feet...

I think a few of us will be riding next (Easter) Sunday if anyone wants to join us. We'll probably do the reservoir ride, with possibly a cool down to New Lenox (weather permitting).

Easter Ride / Training Ride

For those of you not doing the Valpo Mini Marathon next Sunday (April 9th), several of us are planning on riding the Folks on Spokes Easter Ride in place of the normal Sunday ride.

We plan on leaving from the Frankfort parking lot (across from Always Open) at the normal 7:30 start time. We will ride to start of the Easter Ride at Governor's State University. From there we will follow the ride route. However, when we get to the last rest stop at the Monee Reservoir we will return to Frankfort (instead of completing the route back to Governor's State).

The total ride distance should be 70 to 75 miles. EASY, social miles, with stops at every rest stop! The point of the ride is log miles, not hammer - I promise.
