Running Banter

98% of the fun in Triathlon is the training. The other 2% is the measure of how much fun we had.

How cool is this?

It’s 8:00PM Sunday night, 28 degrees and I just finished a 3,000 yard workout... OUTDOORS!!!!! WAY COOL!

This is me in an outdoor swimming pool at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Toronto (yes, a full 25 yard pool).

I have had a wacky schedule over the past 7 Days:

Starting last Monday I spent 5 days in the warmth of Tampa, FL. 5 days of early morning runs on dry pavement. 5 days of running with one layer of clothes: shorts and singlet! 5 Days of running along the shore of Tampa Bay, with nice warm bay breezes.

Friday was a late arrival at O”hare – home at 10:45PM

Saturday morning was 3:00 CompuTrainer ride, followed 2 mile brick run in downtown Chicago.

Sunday morning was a 19.5 mile trail run (which I was late for because I spaced out and set my clock for the wrong time…). I started running the loop in the reverse direction in order to meet the group part way around. Since I was late, I ran “swiftly” and made it 5 miles when I met the group coming down a big hill (thank god, because I didn’t want to run up the hill).

Sunday afternoon I flew to Toronto for meetings Monday and Tuesday.

Sunday night 3,000 yards in an outdoor pool.

Of everything, I think the outdoor swim was the most relaxing.

See you out there.

The Schedule: Locked and Loaded!

After 40 frustrating minutes “F”-ing around with Active.com this morning, my 2007 race schedule is now complete!

Today was the first day for registration for the Horribly Hilly Hundreds in Wisconsin. At the appointed time of 10:00AM CST, I started the registration process. Since this is THE premier cycling event in the Midwest, everyone else in the world was also trying to do the same thing. Send after send… Error after error… Refresh after refresh… Send after send (again)… Finally success and email acknowledgement! The next problem was that only one other person I knew had also succeeded. However, after hours upon hours of “F”ing around it now appears that everyone got in.

So, the official race schedule for 2007 is:

May 19th-----Galena Triathlon (Sprint) - Galena, IL
June 3rd-----Buffalo Triathlon (Olympic) - Buffalo, MN
June 16th----Horribly Hilly Hundreds (200k) – Mt Horeb, WI
June 24th----MetLife Duathlon - Tinley Park, IL
June 30th----USAT Age Group Nationals - Portland, OR
July 14th-----Lifetime Fitness Tri (Olympic) - Minneapolis, MN
August 4th---Steelhead 70.3 Triathlon - Benton Harbor, MI
Sept 9th------Ironman Wisconsin

Apparently, this is going to be the year of hills. Considering the fact that the biggest training hills we have are overpasses, it looks like there will be a lot of training trips to NW Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.

Oh, I almost forgot one very important event: The 2nd Annual Swallow Cliff Off-Road Duathlon. The only event the rewards the finishers with Chocolate Milk! Stay tuned for date and time.

Let the fun begin!

See you out there.
