Having Fun!
I finally have a support crew that truly appreciates me!

This has definitely been an off year for me triathlon-wise. I've done quite a bit of running, some fun riding and not so much swimming. OK, almost no swimming (twice before my first race and 3 or 4 times in July). Although, I am really excited about kayaking and plan to do a lot of that over the coming weekend, and long into the Fall.
So, back to the picture. This was from a race last weekend in my home town. It's small, but I've wanted to do it for years, so this year I signed up. Problem is that it was on Sunday morning, several hours north of Minneapolis, and the day after my nephews wedding. Needless to say this was going to be a "fun race". A few days before the race, my sister-in-law called and asked if would be OK for my nephew (different nephew) to make cheering signs for the race. Well, you can guess the suggestion I made...

Holding the sign is my nephew Collin. Not only did he think it was funny, but so did most of the spectators. The onsite paramedics even came over and asked if they could take his picture, as it was "the best sign they had ever seen". Every time I passed Collin on the course, everyone cheered and laughed, including me. It was probably the best motivation I have ever had!
As for the race... Slow swim (considering 5 or 6 swims since Sept 2007, I'll take it). The bike was fun and I cruised the run with one of my fellow AGers. In the end he nipped me for 2nd, and I took 3rd. I think I will get back to more serious racing next year...

For now, it's back to kayaking and running. As for Fall cycling I have hung the Kuota in the basement and brought out the cross bike - YEAH!!!!
